Cases explode in neighboring hospital! This time, the virus is being transmitted in the hospital.
Matina Pagoni, Vice President of the Greek Federation of Hospital Doctors (OENGE), told MEGA TV that the fungus in question appears especially in intensive care units and wards housing immunocompromised patients.
Pagoni said, "We encounter these cases every year. However, this year there has been a 60 percent increase across Europe. This is a fungus that originates entirely from hospitals."
Pagoni noted that the fungus is resistant to both antiseptics and fungicides, and emphasized the need to wash hands carefully when entering and leaving hospitals.
Candida auris is considered one of the most difficult hospital fungi to control because of its ability to survive for long periods on surfaces and medical equipment.
