Who is Ahmet Nihat Dirim? (Ahmet Nihat Dirim biography)

Ahmet Nihat Dirim completed his primary and secondary school education in Foça. He graduated from İzmir Atatürk High School. He enrolled in the Chemistry Department at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara. To be closer to Foça, he continued his education at Ege University Faculty of Agriculture in the 1978-1979 academic year and graduated in 1982. In 1985, he married Berrin Benzinkaya, with whom he had studied at the Faculty of Agriculture. They had two sons, Kerem and Yunus, from this marriage. He had a third son, Deniz, from his second marriage. He was married to Öngör when he passed away. He ran for mayor from the CHP in the 1989 elections and won the election. He served two terms as mayor of Foça Municipality between 1989 and 1999. He carried out important work for the entire Mediterranean region with his Association (SAD) and the Mediterranean Monk Seal Research Group (AFAG). He facilitated the organization of international conferences to promote Foça. Dirim served as CHP Foça district chairman from 2001 to 2003. He died at the age of 63 due to cancer, after which he received long-term treatment.
