British Consul General in Istanbul Kenan Poleo said the agreement regarding the Eurofighter Typhoon was an example of how closely they are working with Turkey .

Recalling that the memorandum of understanding that allowed Türkiye to be accepted as a Eurofighter user was signed last week, Poleo explained that the agreement was important in terms of defense and advanced production technologies.

"The agreement for the Eurofighter Typhoon is a striking demonstration of how closely we are working with our key NATO partner, Turkey. One-third of these aircraft will be produced in the UK. This presents significant opportunities for both countries in terms of defense and security, as well as economic growth," Poleo said.

"COOPERATION AND FINANCING OPPORTUNITIES IN CLEAN ENERGY ARE INCREASING"

Poleo explained that the UK has prepared a 10-year industrial strategy to support priority sectors, create jobs, and promote long-term growth. Clean energy is one of the key areas we've highlighted in this strategy, along with seven other areas."

PREPARING TO SAY GOODBYE TO HIS "DREAM CITY"

Poleo stated that he was born in London to a Turkish Cypriot family and that he left a legacy of strong collaborations during his 4.5-year tenure in Istanbul.

Consul General Poleo, whose term ends at the beginning of 2026, said, "As much as it is a great pleasure to serve here, it is equally sad that it has come to an end."

Describing the agreements he witnessed during his tenure as milestones, Poleo said, "All the opportunities, the growth potential, and the excitement surrounding the UK-Turkey trade relations I witnessed during my time here will stay with me for many years to come."

Poleo, who explained that he first came to Istanbul as a student at the age of 21 and dreamed of working there one day after seeing the Consulate General building from the outside, said, "It's incredible. I'm a very lucky man."
