When does the month of Safar begin? 2025 Safar start date

According to the 2025 calendar of religious holidays published by the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs, Safar, the second month of the Islamic calendar, will begin this year on Saturday, July 26, 2025. Safar will last 29 days, and at the end of this period, on Saturday night, August 24, 2025, the month of Rabi' al-Awwal will begin.

Some of the important events that took place in the month of Safar in Islamic history are as follows: The migration of the Messenger of Allah and Hazrat Abu Bakr and their refuge in the cave of Sevr (1/622), the Battle of Abwa (Weddan) (2/623), the events of Raji' and Bi'rimauna (4/625), the expedition to Khaybar (7/628), the death of the Prophet's daughter Zaynab (8/629), the severe illness of the Messenger of Allah before his death (11/632), and the Battle of Siffin (37/657).

Safar is the second month of the Islamic calendar. While this month is considered unlucky in some societies, such a belief is not prevalent in Islam. Like every month, Safar is the month of God and a precious time for believers to be spent in worship and prayer. The acts of worship performed during this month aim to strengthen spiritual life, draw closer to God, and strengthen the consciousness of servitude. Performing the five daily prayers without fail is the foundation of servitude. In addition, it is recommended to focus on voluntary prayers such as Duha, Awwabin, and Tahajjud. Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays is sunnah, and acts of worship performed on these days are more rewarding. Reading the Quran during Safar, especially frequently reciting the prayers for protection, is recommended. Surahs al-Falaq and an-Nas are surahs that can be recited frequently in this regard. Additionally, prayers meaning "O Allah, protect me from the calamities of this world and the hereafter" can be recited in accordance with the spirituality of the month of Safar. Giving alms is also an important form of worship during this month. Charity is a shield that wards off calamities and misfortunes. Therefore, helping those in need opens doors to goodness, both individually and socially.

Furthermore, seeking forgiveness frequently and turning to God through repentance helps purify the heart and attain spiritual peace. The prayer, "Astaghfirullah el azîm ellezî lâ ilâhe illa huwal hayyal qayyûme wa atûbu ilayh," can be frequently repeated in this context. Sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad is another act of worship that should not be neglected during this month. Salawat such as "Allahumme salli alâ sayyidinâ Muhammadin wa alâ ali sayyidinâ Muhammad" both earns reward and fills the heart with peace. In short, the month of Safar should be a fruitful time spent in worship, avoiding superstitions. Like every month, this month is an opportunity to turn to God, fulfill one's duties, and mature spiritually.
