Ferit Zengin - The brutal murder that occurred in Istanbul over the weekend came to light when a woman's body was found inside a suitcase on the side of the road in the rural area of Kemerburgaz, Eyüpsultan. Following a tip-off , the body was identified as that of 22-year-old university student Ayşe Tokyaz .
While the investigation was underway, the officers contacted the tipster. They claimed they had left the suitcase on the roadside and retrieved it from a former police officer named Cemil Koç , but they didn't know what was inside. After learning that Tokyaz's twin sister, Esra, had filed a missing persons report against her brother with the police, the officers arrested Koç as a murder suspect . Initial examinations at the Forensic Medicine Institute revealed that Tokyaz, who had been punched to death, had fractures to his nose and skull, as well as bruises on various parts of his body. The cause of death was diagnosed as a brain hemorrhage.

Suitcase on camera
Following a missing person report and complaints filed by Ayşe Tokyaz's twin sister, police went to the complex where Cemil Koç lived in Küçükçekmece and reviewed security footage. Police examined the security footage, determining that Ayşe Tokyaz entered Cemil Koç's home at 7:30 PM on July 9th and never left. They also determined that Koç, along with her friend Necmettin Y., removed a heavy suitcase, identical in size and color to the one found in Kemerburgaz, from the house at 1:30 AM on July 11th.
Agreed for 500 thousand TL
It was determined that Koç placed the body in the trunk of his luxury car, drove it to an address in Eyüpsultan, and left it there for approximately six hours. According to the investigation, Koç then arranged for three individuals to dispose of the body for 500,000 lira and handed it over to them. PTS camera footage also captured the three individuals placing the body in the trunk of their own car and driving towards Kemerburgaz.
Deodorant precaution
It was also determined that while waiting for these individuals, Koç had purchased deodorant from a gas station and sprayed it on himself and the car, attempting to mask the body's odor. Police subsequently detained six people the day before, including three people Koç had arranged to have the body disappear and a friend who helped him move it.
7 suspects arrested
Koç confessed to beating Tokyaz to death after she refused his marriage proposal. He explained that Gökhan and Barış, with whom he had arranged to have the body lost, and his friend Necmettin Y., carried out Koç's instructions in exchange for money, whom they identified as the perpetrator of the murder. Seven suspects were arrested and sent to prison.
His brother's allegations remained unanswered
Ayşe Tokyaz's twin sister, Esra Tokyaz, received no response to social media posts about the police. Esra Tokyaz stated that she went to the complex where Koç was staying, refused entry, and reported it to the police, but the officers told her, "Your brother is an adult; we can't do anything." Esra, who went to the police station at the police's suggestion, stated that she first went to the Halkalı Police Station and then to the Kanarya Public Security Bureau, where her statement was taken under duress. She said, "The morning we left the station, Cemil Koç called and read my statements line by line. He threatened me." Tokyaz also stated that the police searched the suspect's home but found nothing.
Notification after 2 days
Tokyaz's body was placed in a suitcase and removed from the house at 1:30 a.m. on July 11th. It was then handed over to three people for disposal. It was found on the roadside in Kemerburgaz around 2:00 a.m. on July 13th. It was reported that the body had been left in the suitcase on the roadside for two days, and that if it had occurred within two days, the suspects who had also taken it for disposal would have reported the body's location.
He painted the house red!
It was determined that the murder suspect first painted the house red to remove traces of blood in the house and then had the apartment attendant clean the house.

Dismissed from the police force, lives in a luxury complex, has a long criminal record
It was learned that Koç, the murder suspect, was dismissed from the police force in 2024 on charges of "drug" and "arms trafficking" and that he had criminal records for "resisting to prevent someone from performing their duty", "threats", "insult", "intentional wounding" and "buying, possessing or providing for the use of drugs or stimulants for use".
Suspicious death
It was also revealed that Koç, who was identified as a resident of a luxury complex and owned a luxury car, and whose brother was dismissed from the police force for alleged FETÖ affiliation, died under suspicious circumstances two years ago in his hometown of Diyarbakır. It was learned that Övezova died after falling from the sixth floor, and that Koç's statement was taken at the time, but no prosecution was initiated due to insufficient evidence.
'They were going to get married'
According to information available online, Övezova's sister, Jahan Övezova, said: "We learned about Eje's death 10 days later. After the earthquake, Cemil Koç moved to Diyarbakır, and my brother went with him. They were going to get married. They had been in a relationship for about two years."
Övezova, who stated that her brother seemed fine during their last phone conversation, continued:
"She was cleaning, they were settling into the new house. She said Cemil had left the house and would be a little late. She shared that day on her Instagram story, saying it was her birthday. It was a normal day. I couldn't reach her the next day. I saw what had been done to Ayşe on TikTok. When I saw it, I was thankful for my brother. Then, when I looked at the details, I saw it was Cemil."
Jahan stated that Koç frequently called her after the incident and sent her disturbing messages: “He would call me constantly. He would ask, ‘I miss Eje so much, do you see him in your dreams?’ He would call me when I went to the cemetery and say, ‘Can you turn the sound out?’”
