Trump envoy expected to visit Kremlin this week

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi struck a defiant tone in the face of US President Donald Trump's tariff threats, urging the nation to buy local products, while his government signaled it would continue to buy Russian oil.
The Modi government has not instructed Indian oil refineries to stop buying Russian oil, and no decision has been made to suspend purchases, sources familiar with the matter confirmed to Bloomberg, asking for anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
Both state-owned and private refiners are allowed to buy from the most advantageous suppliers, and crude oil purchases remain a commercial decision, several sources said.
Over the weekend, Modi stressed the importance of protecting India's economic interests amid uncertain global conditions. The comments came just days after the Trump administration imposed a 25% tariff on Indian exports to the United States.
The White House has already threatened to take further action if India continues to buy Russian oil.
"The global economy is experiencing a lot of anxiety—there's an atmosphere of instability," Modi declared at a rally in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. "Now, whatever we buy, it should have only one reference: we will buy what was made with the sweat of an Indian."
