Vicente Sánchez Baret dies

Vicente Sánchez Baret , former senator of the Sánchez Ramírez province and political leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), died this Thursday.

Sánchez Baret was 89 years old , the Sánchez Henríquez family reported.

He was married to Yadira Henríquez , former director of the Presidency's Social Plan .

Sánchez Baret was a combatant in the 1965 war and defended freedom during the 12 years of Joaquín Balaguer's government.

During his time in the State, in addition to being a senator , he was also mayor of Cotuí (1961), Minister of the Interior and Police (1978), Minister of Sports and Director of Customs from 2000 to 2004.

He also served as Secretary of Organization and President of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).

He was co-founder of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
