Abinader declares official mourning for the death of Vicente Sánchez Baret
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader , issued decree 608-25 this Friday, declaring October 18 of this year as an official day of mourning for the death of prominent political leader Vicente Sánchez Baret .
According to Article 2 of the decree , the president instructs the Ministry of Defense to render the corresponding military honors to someone who distinguished himself in life for his service to the country.
Likewise, Article 3 provides that the National Flag shall fly at half-mast on the designated date, in military precincts and public buildings throughout the national territory.
The decree also orders its submission to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs , Defense , Interior, and Police for their consideration and execution.
His political lifeSánchez Baret was a combatant in the 1965 war and defended freedom during the 12 years of Joaquín Balaguer's government.
During his time in the State, in addition to being a senator , he was also mayor of Cotuí (1961), Minister of the Interior and Police (1978), Minister of Sports and Director of Customs from 2000 to 2004.
He also served as Secretary of Organization and President of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).
He was co-founder of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
- On a personal level, he was married to Yadira Henríquez , with whom he had three children : Flory , Yessika and Vicente.
