Puigdemont and Junqueras celebrate the failure of BBVA's takeover bid for Sabadell.

"Banco Sabadell will not be absorbed by BBVA. It was important that the takeover bid fail," he emphasized.
The president of Junts and former president of the Generalitat (Catalan government), Carles Puigdemont , celebrated this Thursday the failure of BBVA's takeover bid for Banco Sabadell: "The attempt to destroy Catalonia's banking system has failed."
This is how he reacted in a message on the social network X after BBVA failed in its takeover bid for Banco Sabadell by not obtaining even 26% of the Catalan entity's capital, thus putting an end to its attempt to gain control of it.
Specifically, BBVA has secured the backing of 25.47% of Banco Sabadell's capital, far short of its initial goal of achieving at least 50%, which would have given it control of the Catalan bank.
"Banco Sabadell will not be absorbed by BBVA. It was important that the takeover failed ; now it's even more important that Sabadell strengthen its ties with the Catalan economic and social system. This is the best way to prevent future takeover temptations," Puigdemont added in his message.
For his part, ERC president Oriol Junqueras emphasized that "Sabadell will now have the opportunity to be more useful than ever to the Catalan economy."
"The failure of BBVA's takeover bid against Banco Sabadell is good news for Catalonia, and for the country's businesses and workers," he emphasized in a note on X.
According to Junqueras, "the opportunities that arise from the failure of the takeover bid, also for society as a whole, cannot be lost."
