Suspected of theft on the Paris-Besançon TGV, an Algerian man, under OQTF (Overnight Stay Order) and having failed to comply with his house arrest, was arrested by a plainclothes police officer. Released, he will be tried next January.

A plainclothes Besançon police officer arrested a suspected criminal last Wednesday on the Paris-Besançon Viotte TGV train. He acted under a scheme allowing law enforcement officers to operate on trains if they carry their service weapon. Under the "travel-protect" scheme, introduced in 2022, police officers can benefit from discounts or travel free of charge by train if they carry their service weapon. They then undertake to intervene on board if necessary.
The 20-year-old Algerian national was ordered to leave French territory and had failed to comply with his house arrest. Released on Thursday, he will be tried in January.
