Warning issued about scam involving fake emails demanding payment of a fine for not voting

The National Electoral Court (JNE) has warned of a scam involving fake emails demanding payment of a supposed fine for not voting. The email comes from a fraudulent address and aims to steal personal data. The JNE clarified that the only way to verify voter registration status is through the official website https://infractores.padron.gov.ar/ .
The fake email arrives from the address [email protected] and pretends to be sent by Mi Argentina . The message states that the citizen must regularize their situation and pay a fine for not having voted.
The National Elections Board (JNE) warned that the message contains a link that could steal information from the recipient's device. They reiterated that no electoral body sends emails of this type and that the only official means to verify the situation is the website infractores.padron.gov.ar .
The email mentions the October 26, 2025 elections and warns against voter turnout. It includes a link to “check the details and regularize the situation,” which is actually designed to obtain the victim's personal data.
The message reads: “According to the National Electoral Register, it was verified that you did not vote on October 26, 2025. In accordance with current legislation, an administrative fine applies. It can be paid or justified online within the next 3 business days. For details, please visit the following link.”
In the legislative elections held on Sunday, October 26 , 127 members of the Chamber of Deputies and 24 senators were elected, renewing a significant portion of Congress. Nearly 12 million people did not vote , and the law stipulates penalties for those who do not vote.
For the first time, the elections were held using the Single Paper Ballot (BUP) , a system designed to modernize and increase the transparency of the electoral process. The BUP consolidates all candidates and parties onto a single sheet, preventing ballot shortages and reducing irregularities.
The government of Javier Milei promoted this method with the aim of improving transparency and simplifying the vote count, marking a historic change in the way of voting in Argentina.
