At least ten people were killed and several others injured during an armed attack Tuesday night at a home in Irapuato, in the state of Guanajuato, central Mexico, the local Citizen Security Secretariat reported Wednesday.
According to a statement, the attack occurred in the Barrio Nuevo area during a celebration of a patron saint festival for the Day of Saint John the Baptist. "As a result of these events, according to preliminary data, ten people lost their lives and several more were injured by firearms," the agency said, regretting and condemning the attack.
Local media reported that of the ten victims, four died at the scene of the attack, and six more died while being treated by paramedics or taken to a hospital.
Meanwhile, images of the attack circulated on social media, showing people dancing when gunshots were suddenly heard.
In the midst of the shooting, some people are seen throwing themselves to the ground to avoid being hit by the bullets.
According to the report, from the outset, personnel from the Secretariat, the National Defense Ministry, the National Guard, and the state Attorney General's Office mounted a joint operation to find those responsible.

The state of Guanajuato led the list of intentional homicides in 2024, with 3,151 cases out of a total of 30,057 reported across Mexico, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
