"Supporting Israel also means holding talks on the ground," explains Federal Interior Minister Dobrindt, and does just that. Numerous meetings are scheduled for his visit. Dobrindt begins by speaking with relatives of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas.
During his visit to Israel, Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt first met with relatives of hostages abducted to the Gaza Strip. His ministry reposted a corresponding post by Germany's Ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert, on Saturday evening on the online service X. The attached photo shows Dobrindt and Seibert with hostage relatives; the minister, along with the relatives, is holding photos of the hostages.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior had previously stated on X that CSU politician Dobrindt had traveled to Israel at the invitation of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. "Support for Israel also means holding talks on the ground," Dobrindt stated.
The magazine "Focus" quoted Dobrindt as saying that he wanted to "show that we support Israel as our closest partner in the fight against terror." The minister also reportedly wanted to learn more about Israel's military and civil defense. "Especially in cyber defense and civil protection, Israel is ahead of us," Dobrindt said.
Cyber Dome or Iron Dome?"Germany needs a cyber dome like Israel," Dobrindt told "Focus." "A powerful, digital shield against espionage, sabotage, and to protect critical infrastructure, such as energy and telecommunications companies."
Meanwhile, CSU leader Markus Söder spoke in "Bild am Sonntag" in favor of a missile defense shield for Germany modeled on Israel's "Iron Dome." "Germany needs a protective shield with precision weapons," the Bavarian Minister President told "Bild am Sonntag." This would include "a modern drone army with 100,000 drones and a defense shield similar to the 'Iron Dome' with 2,000 interceptor missiles." In establishing such a defense system, Söder advocated "cooperating with Ukraine and Israel and leveraging their experience."
