War in Ukraine: Fighter pilot killed in airstrike

According to military sources, the pilot of an F-16 fighter jet was killed during an operation against what were probably the most numerous Russian airstrikes in Ukraine since the start of the war. The Ukrainian Air Force said the lieutenant colonel was fending off Russian attacks on Sunday night when the bomber was hit. Russia fired 537 drones, rockets, and cruise missiles at Ukraine overnight. This is the highest number since the start of the war, Ukrainian media reported. There were further injuries and severe damage, including to civilian infrastructure. In the town of Smila, a residential building was hit, authorities said. A child was injured there.
