Serbia: Students demand new elections

|
In Belgrade, tens of thousands of people protested against the government of President Aleksandar Vučić and demanded new elections. They waved EU and Serbian flags at Slavija Square in the Serbian capital on Saturday. According to authorities, 36,000 people took part in the demonstration. For seven months, students in Serbia have been blocking universities and organizing mass demonstrations. The Novi Sad train station accident, in which 16 people died under a collapsing canopy last November, is considered to have been the trigger. Independent experts blame the tragedy on negligence and corruption under Vučić's government.
