Los Angeles Angels fire general manager Perry Minasian after nightmare start to the season imploded playoff hopes

The Los Angeles Angels have fired general manager Perry Minasian in the middle of his sixth season in charge of the team.

The franchise confirmed this in a statement posted just over an hour before their game against the Athletics.

Minasian had been with the team since 2020, but was ineffective as the Angels missed the playoffs in each of the last five seasons.

The statement from the Angels announcing the change barely mentioned Minasian.

'The Angels announced that the Club appointed John Mozeliak as Baseball Operations Consultant, serving as interim General Manager after relieving Perry Minasian of his General Manager duties,' the statement began.

'In his new role, Mozeliak will oversee the day-to-day baseball operations for the Angels while refining a baseball operations strategy and assisting the organization in its search for a new General Manager.'

Over the previous five seasons, the Angels never once made the playoffs under Minasian's reign.

This season looks to be more of the same as the team currently sits seven games back of the lead in the AL West while owning the joint-worst record in the American League by win percentage.

During his tenure, the Angels put up a record of 392-500 as their playoff drought extended to eleven seasons - seemingly destined for a 12th.

Prior to joining the Angels, Minasian was a scout for the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays before becoming an assistant general manager for the Atlanta Braves.
