60 percent of Muğla is under mining license

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras stated that the law opening olive groves to mining activities passed Parliament despite all objections, saying, " This law directly threatens tourism. 70 percent of Muğla's forests and 60 percent of its land are covered by mining licenses."
Aras stated that the privatization of the buoy system, which directly affects the blue cruise industry, is also on the agenda, noting that this situation would negatively impact local businesses. Aras stated, "The privatization of the buoy system would be a serious obstacle for our citizens involved in blue cruises. We are closely monitoring this process and continuing the necessary efforts."
At the end of his speech, Aras commented on the current social and political climate in Türkiye, saying, "We are fighting to keep alive and protect the values of the Republic. We must not forget that I am able to become the Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality today thanks to the principle of equal citizenship enshrined in our Constitution. We must appreciate the opportunities the Republic offers us."
