With head movements, Siri control , improved audio performance for gaming, personalized adaptive sound, and even innovations for hearing health, AirPods are now taking the user experience to the next level. According to 9to5mac, here are all the details about the new features of AirPods Pro and how to use them:

1. CONTROL SIRI AND NOTIFICATIONS WITH HEAD MOVEMENTS

Supported models: AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4

With iOS 18, AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 users can now use head movements to accept or decline calls and reply to messages.

• Accept call / Reply to message: Nod your head up and down.
• Reject call / Close notification: Shake your head left and right.

How to activate?

• Enable the “Announce Notifications” option from the Settings > Notifications menu.
• With your AirPods connected, go to Settings > AirPods.
• You can turn on this feature from the “Head Movements” section and choose which command to assign to which movement.

2. SOUND INSULATION : CLEAR SOUND IN NOISY ENVIRONMENTS

Supported models: AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4

Thanks to Apple's H2 chip and artificial intelligence algorithms, your voice will now be transmitted more clearly to the other party in noisy or windy environments. This feature works directly on AirPods devices.

How to activate?

• While on a call, swipe down from the top of the screen to open Control Center.
• Tap the “Controls” button at the top.
• Click on “Sound Isolation” to enable the feature.

3. AUDIO EXPERIENCE TAILORED TO GAMES

Supported models: AirPods 3, AirPods 4, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max

With iOS 18, Personalized Spatial Audio and Dynamic Head Tracking are now available for games on AirPods. In addition, AirPods Pro 2 enables clearer voice communication with your friends during games at 16-bit 48kHz quality.

How to activate?

• In the AirPods settings, tap on the “Personalized Spatial Audio” option.
• If you haven't set it up before, you can create a custom sound profile for your ear shape with a Face ID-like scan.

4. CUSTOMIZABLE ADAPTIVE AUDIO

Supported models: AirPods Pro and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation

Adaptive Sound intelligently balances Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes based on the sound level in your environment. With iOS 18, this balance is now even more customizable.

How to use it?

• With AirPods connected, go to Settings > AirPods > Adaptive Sound.
• You can adjust the slider to hear more outside noise or block it out completely.

5. INNOVATIONS IN HEARING HEALTH

Supported models: AirPods Pro 2

Apple hasn’t forgotten about hearing health either. With AirPods Pro 2, you can now take a hearing test and use your headphones as a software-based hearing aid if you have mild to moderate hearing loss.

Apple explains:

“With the superior sound quality of AirPods Pro, a personalized hearing profile is automatically activated during music, movies , games and calls. This software-based hearing assistance feature allows users to access hearing support at any time and at a more affordable price.”
