Patients warned of 'excessive heat'

Dr. Mustafa Doğan, Associate Professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases of NKU Faculty of Medicine, warned citizens about the increasing temperatures in June and the diseases that come with it.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğan said that skin problems caused by sweating may occur with the increase in seasonal temperatures, and added, "As a result, we see fungal infections in some areas of the skin.
The most common areas are armpits, groins, between toes, and nails. In slightly heavier people, we can also encounter fungal infections in the folds, creases, under the belly or under the breasts. Our advice for them is to change their clothes after sweating and take frequent showers as a precaution. If they experience redness or color change in these areas, we will recommend that they apply to the nearest health institution. Because these diseases are progressive, they can spread to other parts of the body. It is also possible to transfer them through scratching. Itching these areas and then touching other areas will cause this fungal infection to spread," he said.
'USE OF SHARED ITEMS MAY INCREASE THE LIKELY OF FUNGAL INFECTION'Underlining that citizens should not use shared items in hot weather, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğan said, "In addition, there may be an increase in the frequency of fungal infections due to the use of shared items. Sharing slippers and towels in pools causes the spread of fungal infections. Stepping on wet surfaces is also a separate risk factor for nail fungus and fungal infections that develop between the toes. We will recommend not stepping on wet surfaces without slippers."
'SOME DISEASES CAN CAUSE LIFE-THREATENING RISKS'Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğan noted that consuming clean water is very important in the picture triggered by the heat, and said, "Food spoils very quickly depending on the temperature. It is important not to consume food that has been left out in the open. We will recommend that you pay attention to hand hygiene, drink enough fluids, and if you have an intestinal infection, you should apply to the nearest health institution. Air temperatures can also cause some diseases to be life-threatening. Those with heart diseases, blood pressure problems, respiratory failure, these diseases can flare up in extreme heat, we recommend that these people do not go out, do not stay under the sun, and do not take long walks, especially at certain times of the day."
'THEY SHOULD NOT GO TO ENVIRONMENTS WHERE FLIES AND PESTS ARE FOUND'Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğan stated that there is an increase in the population of flies and insects with the increase in temperatures, and said, "We can categorize the precautions for this under a few main headings, but the main heading is that people should not go to an environment where there are many flies and insects. If they absolutely have to be there, they should wear thick, protective clothing. There may be limited scratching after the bite, but if there is a persistent urge to scratch, this can cause wounds on the skin. For this reason, we recommend that they apply to a health institution and receive treatment in this sense. Again, if there is a disease in that area due to insects, it is important to take special precautions, spray the area, and reduce the density of flies and insects."
