While the unemployment rate in the European Union (EU) is 5.8 percent, the unemployment rate is around 11.6 percent when the EU average is taken into account. Turkey, on the other hand, is seriously different from Europe with an idle labor force rate of 32.2 percent. The number of idle unemployed people reached 13 million as of April 2025. This figure was the highest level in the last 136 months.

Countries such as Greece, Serbia, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Portugal, UAE, Switzerland and Austria have a population below 13 million. CHP Manisa Deputy Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu said, “The April 2025 data revealed the deep crisis in the labor market in Türkiye. According to the data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the number of unemployed increased by 316 thousand people in one month, from 2 million 860 thousand to 3 million 63 thousand.”

The number of people not participating in the labor force, which was 30 million 710 thousand in March 2025, increased to 30 million 866 thousand in April 2025.
