The seemingly innocent danger: A spoon waiting in the water!

Chamber of Food Engineers Board Member Uğur Toprak said that ice cream is a food rich in protein, carbohydrates, fat and vitamins A, B, D, E, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron and zinc as well as minerals.
Stating that ice cream is a nutritious product that should be consumed throughout the year, Toprak said, "It is a dairy product that we love, made with cocoa, fruit, salep and various flavorings. It contains various minerals such as magnesium and sodium, as well as milk fat, protein, carbohydrates and various vitamins."
'HE DRAWN ATTENTION TO MICROORGANISMS'Toprak warned shopkeepers selling ice cream, "Pasteurized milk should be used in particular. Otherwise, it can cause serious food poisoning. We can encounter situations that can lead to death. It should be kept in a cold chain. Thawing and refreezing a frozen product can also cause food poisoning. Attention should also be paid to this.
"We should be careful especially with ice creams sold by street vendors. The cone is important. It should be in a closed place. The spoon we take the ice cream from is also kept in water. This is a serious problem. The weather is hot. The microorganisms that will form can pass into the water and cause serious cross-contamination. The important thing here is to change the spoon water frequently," he said.
Toprak said, "If a packaged product is to be purchased, the packaging should be checked for deformation. Especially if there is crystallized ice in the ice cream, that ice cream should be avoided. Because this indicates that the ice cream has thawed and frozen again. Ice cream is a product that can be consumed in every season. It is definitely necessary to drink a glass of water after eating ice cream."
Ice cream shop owner Yıldız Yiğit said, "We pay attention to hygiene in our products. We use organic, natural products. We think about public health. Customers are also satisfied with our products. We also pay attention to hygiene. We constantly wash the spoons and containers we use when taking ice cream. We also keep our ice cream counter clean. Customer demand for the product increases in this way."
Another shopkeeper, Azra Mağralı, said, "Ice cream sales are going great in the summer. We regularly change our spoons and the water in the container we put them in. We do not use additives or products containing carcinogenic substances in our products."
