When is the month of Dhul-Hijjah? 2025 Dhul-Hijjah date

The 12th and last month of the year according to the Hijri calendar, Dhul-Hijjah, will begin on Friday, June 7 and end on June 19.

According to the preferred interpretation, the “ten nights” in the 2nd verse of Surah Fajr refers to the first ten nights of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, the month of Hajj (Razi, Mafatih al-ghayb, 31/148). Referring to the virtues of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, the Prophet (pbuh) said, “There is no good deed more beloved to Allah than a good deed done in these ten days.” The companions asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Is it better than jihad in the cause of Allah?” Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, He said, “Yes, and also from jihad in the path of Allah. However, the jihad of one who risks his life and property and does not return after being martyred is superior to that.” (Abu Dawud, Sawm, 61 [2438]; see Bukhari, ʽÎdayn, 11 [969])

The virtue of these ten days of Dhul-Hijjah is due to the fact that the Hajj is performed in this month (Ibn Hajar, Fath, 2/459). Because some of the rituals of Hajj are performed on these days and some of them (such as tawaf of pilgrimage, stoning the devil) are performed on the following days of tashriq. It is also mentioned in narrations that fasting on the eve of Eid al-Adha, which is the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, is very virtuous.
