A truck carrying plastic waste overturned in a ditch after failing to negotiate a corner in the Salihli district of Manisa. The resulting fire was extinguished by local residents and firefighters before it could spread to the forest. The injured driver was taken to hospital.
The accident occurred around 18:30 on the Ödemiş-Salihli highway, in the Hacıoğlu area of Gökköy Neighborhood. The Scania truck, with license plate 64 ACD 079, driven by Mehmet A., was traveling in the direction of Salihli when it was unable to negotiate a bend, veered off the road, and rolled into a ditch.
The truck quickly caught fire due to the plastic waste it was carrying. Residents of the surrounding neighborhood responded first to the fire with water tankers.
Fire Response and Road Conditions
Responding to the report, teams from the Forest Management Directorate and the Salihli Fire Department brought the fire under control before it spread to the forested area. The Salihli-Ödemiş highway was temporarily closed due to the fire, but it reopened after cleaning.
Driver Status
The injured driver, Mehmet A., was taken to Salihli State Hospital after receiving first aid at the scene. His treatment is ongoing and his condition is being monitored.
