After salmonella bacteria was detected in Turkish-origin "Dubai chocolate" spread sold in the US, the products were immediately recalled from the market. The first warning came during routine food inspections conducted by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture on July 14. Five people were reportedly hospitalized after consuming the kadayıf and pistachio chocolate spread, produced by Emek Gıda in Turkey and distributed to 30 US states.
Salmonella bacteria can cause serious health problems, especially in people with weakened immune systems. The bacteria, which causes symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, high fever, and vomiting, has caused serious concern among consumers.
After some people who consumed the product sold at World Market stores showed signs of poisoning, American authorities took swift action and initiated a comprehensive recall to remove the products from shelves.
Even more striking is that the chocolate spread in which salmonella was detected was exported not only to the US but to a total of 30 other countries. Authorities have warned citizens not to consume the kadayıf and pistachio chocolate spread. The company has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
