Rector Özkan celebrated Nurses Day

Akdeniz University Rector Prof. Dr. Özlenen Özkan, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşe Gülbin Arıcı, Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Çete, deputy chief physicians, hospital managers, nurses and healthcare professionals attended the event held on the 10th floor of Akdeniz University Hospital A Block.
Akdeniz University President Prof. Dr. Özlenen Özkan, who started his speech by stating that he knew everyone since he worked with nurses during his studies at Akdeniz University and after graduation, said, “I look at health services like this. There are ones, which indicate existence, and zeros, which indicate non-existence. However, when one and zero come together, they express value. Many services are provided, but I think the most important service is health services. Because we provide a service related to existence or non-existence. In this sense, zeros mean nothing without ones. In this respect, the services you provide are very valuable. The most important components of this service are of course doctors and nurses.”

Rector Özkan, who stated that he entered Akdeniz University in 1995 and has been involved in the health system since then, said, “I have had the opportunity to work since the 2000s. I personally miss those days. Nursing is a very sacred and ancient profession. In our most important times, they are in front of us both as doctors and patients, and what we do is so valuable and special that it contains something that not everyone can do. And that is patience. Patience is not something that everyone has. It is much more important when you do your job with love and patience. The love and compassion you show to patients is very valuable.”
Following his speech, Rector Özkan congratulated the participants on Nurses Day and presented flowers to Health Services Director Kamile Çelik on the occasion of Nurses Day.
