X's Global Government Affairs account used the following statements in its post:
The decision to block access from Türkiye to the account of the currently detained Mayor of Istanbul, X, has been notified to X. In a statement he made in 2022, Elon Musk stated that what he meant by “freedom of expression” was only “expression that is in accordance with the law” and argued that he was “against censorship that goes far beyond the law.”
However, the example in Brazil has brought criticism about the inconsistency of this stance. Former President Jair Bolsonaro, who lost the 2022 elections in Brazil, mobilized his supporters by refusing to accept the results. Elon Musk opposed this decision and said that the platform would not comply with the demands. However, after the court threatened to shut down the platform, Musk backed down and the content was removed.
