8.7 magnitude earthquake in Russia! Tsunami warning issued

An 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center announced that a tsunami warning had been issued for the region following the earthquake. The US tsunami warning system states that giant waves of 3 meters could hit the coasts of Russia, the United States, and Japan within three hours. Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula was shaken by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake on July 20. The earthquake was reported to have occurred off the coast of the Pacific Ocean, 115 kilometers from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the peninsula.

Dozens of aftershocks, the largest of which measured 6.9, occurred on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
A 3-4 meter tsunami was recorded
Kamchatka is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region experiencing intense seismic and volcanic activity on both sides of the Pacific Ocean. Residents of Sakhalin, a Russian island in the Pacific Ocean southwest of the epicenter, are being evacuated, according to Sakhalin Governor Valery Limarenko, RIA News reported.

The Alaska-based National Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for parts of the Aleutian Islands and parts of the West Coast, including California, Oregon and Washington, as well as Hawaii.

US President Donald Trump shared a post on social media. "A tsunami warning has been issued for residents of Hawaii due to a major earthquake in the Pacific Ocean. Japan is also among the areas at risk. Stay strong and safe," Trump said.
