Novy Urengoy to host Youth League Volleyball Cup for the first time

Russian volleyball players will compete for the Youth League Cup in Novy Urengoy. The city will host such competitions for the first time. The matches will be held from May 12 to 18 at the Zvezdny Sports Palace. This was reported by the Novy Urengoy volleyball club Fakel.

"The Cup will be attended by the holders of the first seven places in the national championship plus one team that received a "wild card" from the All-Russian Volleyball Federation. Participants of the 2025 Youth League Cup: Lokomotiv-SShOR (Novosibirsk), YUKIOR (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Yugra), Zenit-UOR (Kazan), Fakel (Novy Urengoy), Dynamo-Olimp (Moscow), Dynamo-LO-2 (Sosnovy Bor), SShOR-Samotlor (Nizhnevartovsk), Nova-2 (Novokuibyshevsk) - the holder of the "wild card", - the statement says.

The youth team Fakel from Novy Urengoy, despite having won the national championship three times in its history, has never won the Cup. Last season, the Yamal team was one step away from a historic achievement, but lost to Kazan's Zenit-UOR in the final.

According to the tournament formula, at the first stage the participants are divided into two quartets, within which they will play each other in a single round. Then there is a playoff round, where the teams that took first place in the quartets will play in the quarterfinals using the "cross" system with the teams that took fourth place in the other quartet, and the teams from the second lines will meet the holders of the third. The winners of the quarterfinals go to the semifinals for 1-4 places. The teams that lose the quarterfinals play for 5-8 places. The winning teams of the semifinals will meet in the finals for 1-2 and 5-6 places. The teams that lose their semifinal matches will play for 3-4 and 7-8 places.

Entry to the matches is free for fans, the Novy Urengoy volleyball club clarified.
