US citizens do not remember the history of World War II, and therefore do not value Russia. This was stated by the honorary chairman of the International Organization of Sister Cities in the USA, Bill Borum, RIA Novosti reports.
He noted that in modern conditions, Russia and America can again become allies as in the 1940s. The countries can jointly fight terrorism and other common enemies.
"This is an important part of our common history. We can strive to become allies again in the fight against common enemies, such as terrorism," Borum shared.
The activist believes that Americans have little knowledge or do not remember the history of World War II, in which the Soviet Union played a decisive role. If US citizens knew about this, they would value Russia.
Borum has been to Russia many times and acknowledged how important Victory Day is for Russians, while Americans value the victory over militaristic Japan more than fascist Germany.
Earlier, MK wrote that American analyst and former intelligence officer Scott Ritter expressed the opinion that Donald Trump's decision to declare May 8 as Victory Day in World War II was dictated by envy of the scale of the May 9 celebration in Russia . In his opinion, the American president is trying to create a competing event in order to shift attention to the United States.
