Miguel Oliveira returned to competition at the French MotoGP GP

Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (Yamaha) returned to competition today in training for the MotoGP French Grand Prix, the sixth round of the season, finishing in 21st position.

The driver from Almada, who suffered a ligament injury in his left shoulder in the sprint race of the Argentine GP, the second round of the championship, on March 15, was away from the track for almost two months.

Today, he finished timed practice in 21st position, 2.470 seconds behind the fastest, Spaniard Marc Márquez (Ducati), who beat Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), second, by 0.177 seconds, and Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), third, by 0.184.

Márquez seems to have recovered from the crash that kept him out of the fight for a podium in the previous race, the Spanish GP, and today he even broke the record for the French circuit, with a time of 1.29.855 minutes, taking almost a tenth off the previous record, held by Spaniard Jorge Martín (1.29.919).

In the morning free practice session, Miguel Oliveira had finished in 21st place.

The Portuguese rider is now trying to regain the rhythm and physical form he lost during the break he suffered due to the injury he sustained in the fall when he was hit by the Spaniard Fermin Aldeguer (Ducati) in Argentina.

Championship leader Alex Márquez (Ducati) was only fifth in the afternoon session, which guaranteed the 10 fastest drivers direct passage to the second phase of qualifying.

On Saturday, Miguel Oliveira will have to compete in the first of two phases, Q1, which gives access to the two fastest drivers to the next phase.

Still on Saturday, but in the afternoon, the sprint race will be held.
