Athletics: record holders compete in the 16th edition of the Vitor Tavares Meeting in Faro

It is one of the most popular meetings on the circuit and this year, as no exception, once again sees the presence of national and international record holders, both Portuguese and foreign.
The throws concentrate most of the record holders. In the shot put, the highlight is Sporting's Tsanko Arnaudov (20.81 meters as the best mark of this season), national record holder.
In the women's discus throw, Liliana Cá (Sporting) stands out, former Portuguese record holder, who this year has a best throw of 62.39 meters, and who has already thrown in the Diamond League; while in the men's there will be an intense fight between the Ecuadorian record holder, Juan Caicedo (66.48 meters), the national record holder Emanuel Sousa (Benfica), who recently set the national record at 67.51 meters, and also Sporting's Edujose Lima, who has 58.28 meters as his best this season.
In the long jumps, Agate Sousa (individual) stands out, winning the bronze medal at the 2024 European Championships in Rome, whose best score in 2025 was a jump of 6.49 meters (but in 2023, she reached 7.03 meters, ranking in the world top-5). In the men's event, in the same event, the highlights are the athletes Simão Alexandre (Estreito), with 7.55 meters this season, and the young Sporting player Marcos Lara (7.49 m).
Always present in the competition, the 400-meter races (flat or with hurdles) are expected to have interesting outcomes, says the Portuguese Athletics Federation.
In the 400 meters flat, the main highlights go to Sporting's Carina Vanessa (52.98 seconds, this season) and Clara Martinha (55.74), in the women's category; to the Irishman Ciaran Carthy (47.89 seconds) and the young Guilherme Faias, from CA Seia (47.96 seconds), in the men's category.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Juliana Guerreiro, from Sporting (57.36 seconds as registration time), stood out in the women's category; and her teammates Diogo Barrigana (50.98 seconds) and Duarte Fernandes (51.45 seconds).
A reference for a race that wants to gain expression in the Circuit, the 2000 meters obstacles, in which the Moroccan Mourad Ed Dafali (5m48s25” in 2024) is registered.
Special note for the presence, in the 100 meters, of Igor Oliveira (Sporting), the world record holder for the 60 meters in the T20 category, in adapted athletics.
With prizes ranging from 400 to 50 euros for the ten best brands (in total), this meeting starts at 5 pm and the last race is scheduled to start at 8:45 pm.
