Fires: Independent Technical Commission approved with votes against from Chega and IL

Parliament today approved the Socialist Party's proposal to create an Independent Technical Commission to analyze this summer's fires, with votes against from Chega and IL and abstention from the PCP.
The PS proposal, which received favorable votes from the Socialists and the PSD, CDS-PP, Livre, PAN and JPP (the BE was not present), aims to create an independent technical commission (CTI) to analyze the August fires, composed of 12 specialist technicians of recognized merit and which quickly produces a report with conclusions and recommendations.
According to the Socialist Party's bill, the CTI aims to conduct "an exhaustive and factual analysis of this year's rural fire campaign, comparing it with previous years," particularly the 2018-2024 period.
The Socialist Party (PS) wants to "identify the causes of the recorded operational failure, evaluate the effectiveness of current public policies, and produce a final report with concrete, urgent, and long-term recommendations for strengthening the forest fire defense model."
