Creation of Foreigners Unit in PSP approved by parliament

Deputies today approved the creation of the National Foreigners and Borders Unit (UNEF) within the PSP, with favorable votes from the PSD, Chega, IL and CDS and abstentions from the PS and JPP.

The remaining parties on the parliamentary left voted against, with the PCP announcing a declaration of vote.

The creation of UNEF is the result of a Government proposal, with some changes requested by Chega.

In the parliamentary committee, Chega attempted to change the name of the new unit, but its proposal was rejected, meaning its original project will still be voted on in the plenary.
