The Unitary Democratic Coalition (CDU) announced in a statement its top candidates for the municipal bodies of Portimão for the 2025 local elections. Nuno Cordas is the candidate for the Municipal Council, while Lurdes Melo leads the list for the Municipal Assembly.

With the motto “Work, Honesty and Competence”, the CDU states that it will move forward with confidence and determination towards the next electoral battle, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its “intervention in defence of the interests of the population, democratic local power and the development of the municipality of Portimão”.

At 43 years old, Nuno Cordas is a senior diagnostic and therapeutic technician. A member of the PCP Municipal Committee and of the governing bodies of the Portuguese Taxi Federation, his career spans areas such as health, associations, sports, culture and transport.

He has maintained direct contact with the population for over a decade through his work in community pharmacies. In sports, he was a retired referee for the Algarve Football Association and is currently an observer for the Portuguese Football Federation, also being a member of the technical support committee of the Arbitration Council.

A micro-entrepreneur in the taxi sector, he was the CDU's first candidate for the City Council in the 2021 local elections. The coalition emphasizes that his candidacy represents “a desire to continue contributing to the well-being and progress of the city”, supported by a vision that focuses on “integrity, sustainable development and strengthening of the community”.

For the Municipal Assembly, the CDU is once again betting on Lurdes Melo, 62 years old, a lawyer and resident in Portimão since 1993. With a degree in Law from the University of Coimbra, she has been elected to this body since 2017 and is a member of the PCP's Portimão Municipal Committee.

She was the CDU representative in the Algarve in the 2019 European elections and has focused her political action on social issues, from young people to the elderly, housing, the environment and the defense of rights enshrined in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.
