Lagos dedicates a vote of praise to choreographer and performer Daniel Matos

The awarding of the "Drop" Award for Best Performance to Daniel Matos at the 31st edition of the PUF – International Theatre Festival, held in Pula (Croatia), was the pretext for the vote of congratulations and praise dedicated by the Lagos City Council to the choreographer and performer from Lagos.
The proposal, presented and approved at the last council meeting, highlights not only this award, given to the work "A Pedra, a Mágoa", by Daniel Matos, but also the entire career of the young creator and his contribution to the appreciation of contemporary culture, at local, national and international level.
The municipality also highlights the way in which the artist has asserted his creative identity with courage, rigor, and innovation, taking the name of Lagos to the highest level of European artistic creation.
The municipal executive did not hide its satisfaction with the news of this new distinction for the Lagos artist Daniel Matos, which he considers to be "a reflection of coherent, intense and continuous work, which stands out for its quality and innovation, and which makes Lagos very proud."
"We are certain that this award is just one of many to come, the result of the talent, dedication, and creative courage demonstrated throughout this journey. A path that enhances local culture and projects it both within and beyond borders," according to the municipality.
It is worth remembering that Daniel Matos' artistic merit has been recognized at other times and instances, as in 2023, the creator saw his work «VÄRA» nominated for best choreography in the «Dance» category of the «Authors' Award 2023» awarded by the Portuguese Society of Authors , alongside works by other creators, key references in the world of Contemporary Dance in Portugal.
The work now awarded at the Pula International Theatre Festival features the collaboration of three performers and a highly worthy artistic team, and is a production by CAMA – a cultural association , a group to which the local authority dedicates the article «Associativismo» in issue no. 13 of LAGOS – Municipal Magazine (pages 51 and 52).
Thanking the recognition expressed through the vote of congratulations and praise, Daniel Matos took the opportunity to share more good news, that of the nomination of the play/work «A Pedra, a Mágoa» for Best Choreography to be distinguished within the scope of the Authors Award 2025, promoted by the Portuguese Society of Authors, whose winners will be announced on the 12th of September.
