Unicorns: The Unstable and True Life of Portuguese Startups

Over the past decade, Portugal has been transforming itself into a hub for the creation and development of startups. At the end of last year, there were 4,719 startups operating in our country, 16% more than in 2023, generating an aggregate turnover of €2.6 billion and employing 26,000 people.
If we extend the analysis to the last three years, the average revenue growth of these companies was 30%, more than double that of the entire Portuguese business sector. Job creation in these technology-based companies increased by 19% over the same period, while the overall economy grew by 4%.
