Amazon rivers are four meters above the levels recorded in 2024

The water level of the Amazon rivers in 2024 is up to four meters higher than the numbers detected at the beginning of August last year, when the drought affected the navigability of large cargoes in the region, according to the internal monitoring bulletin of the SNHN (National Secretariat of Waterways and Navigation) of the MPor (Ministry of Ports and Airports).
In the case of the Solimões River, the water level is 409 centimeters higher than the same day last year in São Paulo de Olivença and 363 centimeters higher in Tabatinga, cities located in western Amazonas. In Coari, in the central part of the state, the record is 445 centimeters.
According to the National Secretary of Waterways, Dino Antunes, "it is a region that depends heavily on navigability conditions for the arrival of food, fuel and medicines and current levels indicate that there should be no disruptions to passenger and cargo transportation in the state, as occurred last year."
On the Amazon River, the Itacoatiara monitoring point (in the eastern region of the state) indicates 322 centimeters above the level recorded on the same day last year. In Manaus (Negro River), the level is 339 centimeters above the level recorded in 2024.
The Ministry of Ports and Airports signed a drainage contract last year, valid for 5 years.
The sections of the Solimões River that have contracts signed for dredging are: Coari-Codajás, Benjamin Constant, and São Paulo de Olivença and Tabatinga to Benjamin Constant. On the Amazon River, the contract covers the 200-kilometer stretch between Manaus and Itacoatiara.
