Dreaming of a relaxing vacation and wondering where the most comfortable bathing water will be ? Some have exceptionally warm water, with temperatures in one reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius.
An exceptionally warm lake in PolandThose who enjoy warm water bathing don't have to choose the Adriatic; they can also enjoy Polish lakes. The warmest ones are often located farther from the Baltic Sea, which protects them from chilly winds, among other things. Data on the best water for bathing is collected by, among others, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management . Various sources indicate that Lake Licheń, located in the Wielkopolska Voivodeship near the town of Licheń Stary, is a unique place.
This is a classic ribbon lake with a well-developed shoreline. Nearby, you'll find forests and a peaceful setting. The record water temperature in this reservoir was a staggering 33 degrees Celsius, making it a favorite destination for tourists from Poland and abroad. Lake Licheńskie covers approximately 1,460 hectares and is 12.6 meters deep. The swimming season lasts until the end of August, with water temperatures currently hovering around 24 degrees Celsius.
Why is the water so warm? Many factors contribute to this, including the relatively shallow water and lack of a strong outflow, further protected from the wind by the surrounding pine trees. The greatest contributor to this phenomenon is water from the nearby Konin power plant complex. The water cools the turbines there, passes through filters, and returns to the lake. This works like a boiler, as the lake water is incorporated into the power plant's cooling system.
Poland also boasts other lakes with exceptionally warm water. Their temperature, as usual, depends on the air temperature, the depth of the lake, and its size. It's important to remember that the lakes' maximum water temperature is usually in August—in shallower lakes, it can reach up to 25°C.
In July 2024, water temperatures above 24°C were recorded in lakes such as Sławianowskie in Greater Poland, Sępoleńskie in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, and Sławskie in the Lubusz Voivodeship. In addition, Masurian pearls such as Lake Śniardwy, Mamry, and Niegocin are perfect for a comfortable swim in summer. Lake Ełckie and Lake Rospuda Filipowska are also worth visiting.
