In exactly seven days, the Polish women's volleyball team will begin their World Championships in Thailand . Stefano Lavarini's squad will first face Vietnam. The match will be played on Saturday, August 23rd. Two days later, the Polish team will play Kenya. The group stage will conclude with a match against Germany. The top two teams will advance to the knockout stage in Bangkok.

Lavarini reveals his cardsOn August 16th, the Italian coach announced the 14 players who will compete in Thailand to win Poland's first World Championship medal in 63 years. It's hard to call this a surprise, as the World Cup squad flew to Asia three days ago. The players are acclimatizing in Japan before heading to Phuket, where the World Championships will be held.
The lineup announced by the coach included the biggest stars, including Malwina Smarzek, Martyna Łukasik and Magdalena Stysiak.
Stefano Lavarini, however, sprang a few surprises. He called up Marlena Kowalewska to replace setter Alicja Grabka , who had been the second-choice setter in the Nations League. The volleyball player will return to action after a knee injury. Initially, she trained individually in Szczyrk. She joined the team during training camp in early August.
In turn, Weronika Centka-Tietianiec , who has health problems and had to end the national team season due to an injury, will be replaced by Sonia Stefanik .
