6-1 in the second set. Sinner's great start to the ATP Finals.

Jannik Sinner got off to a strong start at the prestigious ATP Finals. The Italian tennis player was forced to concede victory after two sets to Felix Auger-Aliassime, who was struggling with a calf injury throughout the match.
Group play began at the ATP Finals on Sunday, November 9th. It's important to note that this is a competition with its own rules and is significantly different from other events on the tour. The top eight players of the season are divided into two groups of four, each playing a round robin format. The top two players from each group advance to the semifinals.

Sinner is one of the favorites to win the entire tournament in Turin, a fact he demonstrated during his first match in Italy. The ATP No. 2 came close to breaking his opponent several times in the first set, while simultaneously defending his serves without any major problems. Ultimately, the Italian won on his opponent's serve only in the 12th game. Sinner thus tipped the scales in his favor in the first set (7-5).
In the next set of the match, Auger-Aliassime capitulated much earlier, as the Canadian was broken in the second game. However, that wasn't the end of the Canadian's problems. Moments later, the 25-year-old was forced to request a medical timeout due to calf problems. After a visit from a physiotherapist on the court, Auger-Aliassime returned to the match.
The brief pause didn't derail Sinner's rhythm. The Italian continued to perform at a high level, allowing him to capitalize on his opponent's mistakes and break him again. The world's second-best tennis player triumphed in the second set 6-1 in front of his home crowd, securing his first victory at this year's ATP Finals and moving closer to the semifinals.
Sinner and Auger-Aliassime are playing in Bjorn Borg's group, which also includes Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton. In the opening match of that group, the German defeated the American in straight sets.
