500 PLN fine for mown grass. The owner has two legal options

• Grass clippings must not be thrown away in random places.
• Throwing it away, for example, on the side of the road, in a meadow, in the forest or on someone else's property is an offence.
• During heavy rains, the cut grass flows down with the rainwater, tightly clogging the inlet grates.

The Szczecin Water and Sewage Company draws attention to the fact that the grass mowing season has begun. Property managers and private plot owners have taken up the task of tidying up the greenery, which is why the Water and Sewage Company reminds us that mown grass must be cleaned up, because during heavy rains it flows away with rainwater, tightly clogging the inlet grates.

In connection with the beginning of the grass mowing season, we ask for ongoing cleaning and removal of grass from the roadsides, especially in the road area. The consequence of an inappropriate combination of human activity with nature may be the inability to receive rainwater through rainwater inlets, which may cause local flooding.

Waterworks employees are also asked to pay attention to whether storm drains and manholes are being contaminated during renovation or modernization work carried out on properties.

The cut grass should be placed in a bin intended for green waste, or even better, in a composter.

Mowed and dried grass can also be used in winter to protect frost-sensitive plants or for mulching.
