Track renovation on Matejki Street. Roadway narrowing and preparations for major work.

Renovation of the tram tracks has begun on Matejki Street in Szczecin. This investment aims to improve the technical condition of one of the most worn-out sections of tram infrastructure in the city center. The work will cover the section between Rodła Square and Malczewskiego Street, where tram speed limits have been in place for years due to the poor condition of the tracks.
Trams currently run through this area at a maximum speed of 10 kilometers per hour. Preparations for the actual construction work are currently underway. Safety barriers have been placed along the tracks, narrowing the road in both directions – from Rodła Square to Malczewskiego Street, drivers have only one lane available. A speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour has been introduced, and traffic lights are being switched off and replaced. All of this makes traveling through this part of the city difficult and requires drivers to exercise greater caution and patience.
Heavy construction equipment has already arrived on site. An excavator has been positioned near the tracks, and subsequent machines are gradually arriving to dismantle the old infrastructure and build the new track. Preparatory work includes marking out the work area, organizing the technical support, and securing the construction site. In the coming days, the contractor will begin dismantling the old track and beginning the main work. The renovation is being carried out by Stanled I, the only company to submit a bid in the tender announced by Tramwaje Szczecińskie. The investment cost is approximately 4.5 million PLN, exceeding the previously estimated budget. However, due to the urgent need for modernization, the decision was made to proceed with the project.
According to the contract, the renovation is expected to take approximately four months. The vast majority of the work is scheduled for the summer holiday period, which aims to minimize the impact on the city's daily operations. Additionally, a break in work is planned for August during the Żagle 2025 event to facilitate the smooth organization of the event and ensure accessibility to this part of the city center. This is the next stage of the modernization of Szczecin's tram network, which has required systematic investment and technical renovation for years.
