Fourteen people have completed quarantine related to cholera in one of the patients

Fourteen of the 26 individuals completed their quarantine on Wednesday. None of them are showing any symptoms, according to the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Szczecin. Those placed in quarantine were those who had contact with the patient suspected of having cholera.
The remaining people will complete their quarantine in the following days, said Paweł Mayko from the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Szczecin.
On Saturday, a patient from the hospital in Stargard was admitted to the provincial hospital in Szczecin after testing positive for cholera. Cholera toxin testing is still ongoing. A total of 26 people have been placed under home quarantine, and 85 are under epidemiological supervision.
– All persons who were or are in quarantine, and those under epidemiological supervision, did not report any deterioration in their health or any disturbing symptoms – said Mayko.
A case of cholera in an elderly woman in Stargard has been confirmed by two independent laboratories. Health officials are investigating the source of the illness. Neither the patient nor any of her family members had traveled abroad. The patient's condition, suspected of having cholera, is described as stable.
The last case of cholera in Poland was recorded in 2019 in Świnoujście.
Cholera is a highly contagious disease caused by the Vibrio cholerae bacterium. It spreads epidemically through water contaminated by patients and carriers. Its main symptoms are acute, watery diarrhea and vomiting, leading to dehydration. Without appropriate treatment, it can quickly lead to death. The disease is treated with antibiotics.
