The Empire State Building glowed white and red. A unique gesture from the United States.

On Monday, at 10:00 PM (CET), the Empire State Building in New York City was illuminated with red and white lights to mark Poland's Independence Day. The symbolic switching on of the lights was performed by the captain of the Polish national football team, Robert Lewandowski.
New York's gesture is intended as a symbol of appreciation for Polish history and culture, as well as for the millions of Poles living in America. The Empire State Building's red and white illumination is the first ever to mark Independence Day.
The Empire State Building is one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. Built in 1931, it was the world's tallest skyscraper for many years. Located in the heart of Manhattan, it is not only a tourist attraction but also a venue for numerous cultural and symbolic events .
New Yorkers honored Poland's Independence Day. The Empire State Building was decorated in red and white.Since 1976, the building has been renowned for its tradition of variable illuminations, which express support for important initiatives, national holidays, sporting events, and social campaigns. Thanks to the modern LED system, the skyscraper can create spectacular light shows visible from many corners of the city.

The presence of Robert Lewandowski , one of the most recognizable figures in Polish sports worldwide, gave the event a special character. After scoring a hat-trick against Barcelona on Sunday, Lewandowski traveled especially from Spain to attend the ceremony.
The Polish community in New York will commemorate Independence Day with events planned at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland and the Piłsudski Institute , among others.
