Building new screens and expanding existing ones along the A1 will not be easy.

The aim of the investment is to reduce excessive noise in the vicinity of the motorway, which is something that residents of Łódź and the Zgierz and eastern Łódź poviats are complaining about.

"Based on the results of the so-called post-implementation analysis, the Marshal of the Łódź Voivodeship carried out a standard administrative procedure, which imposed on us the obligation to reduce excessive noise generated by vehicles traveling on the A1 motorway. Measurements we conducted in 2023 confirmed that in some places the permissible noise level had been exceeded," notes the Łódź Branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways .

He also reminds that for areas with multi-family housing developments, these standards are: up to 56 decibels at night and up to 65 decibels during the day .

On a 26-kilometer section of the A1, it will build new and expand existing screens.

" However, the entire project is much more complicated . To construct the new screens, it will also be necessary to dismantle existing safety barriers and install new ones, install new drainage, remove fencing where the screens collide, and dismantle existing signage and install them on new structures. The remaining road signs will also need to be removed and reinstalled," the Łódź traffic management explains.

The contract with the contractor is expected to be signed by the end of the year. Implementation will consist of three stages:

• Stage I: design - 9 months,
• Stage II: construction - 10 months (at this stage, the winter period from December 16 to March 15 is not included in the implementation time),
• Stage III: testing the effectiveness of the implemented security measures - 6 months.

“From now on, after 19 months, the barriers should be built, and the entire project will take 25 months to complete,” GDDKiA summarizes.
