In Eredivisie 26 wrong decisions despite VAR use

Despite the use of video referees (VAR), 26 incorrect decisions were made in 306 matches in the Eredivisie last season. Referee Affairs Manager Raymond van Meenen announced this in Zeist.
According to Van Meenen, these 26 cases concern errors in which the VAR was authorised to intervene. That is to say, in the case of giving or not giving a red card, awarding a penalty, the validity of a goal and when referees substitute people.
The use of the VAR prevented 107 errors last season at the highest level of professional football in the Netherlands. During a season, the VAR performs approximately 2,500 checks. In the vast majority of cases, a check does not lead to an intervention.
According to Van Meenen, the VAR is there to serve as a safety net if an obvious mistake is made. "The decision always remains with the referee," says Van Meenen.
