Tigres continues its strong run in the 2025 Leagues Cup thanks to Ángel Correa's brace.

Ángel Correa was the star of Tigres in their second consecutive victory in the 2025 Leagues Cup . The team led by Guido Pizarro defeated San Diego FC 2-1 in the second round of the binational tournament, a result that, added to the draw between Pachuca and LAFC , places the felines at the top of their group with six points and with a good chance of qualifying for the Quarterfinals.

The match began with significant changes to Tigres ' lineup. André-Pierre Gignac and Hirving "Chucky" Lozano started on the bench, while San Diego arrived under pressure to get a result after their previous loss to Pachuca . Even so, the Sultana del Norte team took control of the match from the first half.

In the 31st minute, Ángel Correa opened the scoring after a mistake by goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega , who left the ball loose in the six-yard box. The Argentine forward took advantage of the mistake to tap the ball into an empty net and give Monterrey the lead.

The U.S. team's comeback came in the second half. After a rough play in the box, Tomás Ángel Gutiérrez found space to shoot and beat Nahuel Guzmán in the 55th minute, equalizing. The pressure mounted on both sides, and the coaches made adjustments in search of victory.

Pizarro sent Gignac and Lozan onto the field, but Correa remained the star. In the 70th minute, the Argentine received the ball inside the box, feinted the goalkeeper, and fired a cross shot inside the near post to seal the final 2-1. From then on, Tigres managed to manage their advantage and closed down San Diego FC's offensive attempts.

In the other group match, Pachuca and LAFC drew 1-1 in regulation. Denis Bouanga scored for the home team in the 10th minute, while Elías Montiel equalized for the Tuzos in the 32nd minute. Although LAFC won 4-2 in the penalty shootout, they only earned two points, a result that leaves them on the brink of elimination.
