The 13th is here! Mexico defeats the United States and is crowned Gold Cup champion.

The Mexican national team made history once again by defeating the United States 2-1 in the Gold Cup Final , played at NRG Stadium in Houston.

With this victory, the Tricolor added its 13th title in the history of the competition, reaffirming its hegemony within the Concacaf zone.

The match started off on an uphill climb for Javier Aguirre 's team, as in the 4th minute, Chris Richards put the American team ahead with a precise header from a corner kick.

However, Mexico refused to give up and managed to equalize before halftime. Raúl Jiménez took advantage of a defensive lapse to score the 1-1 with a cross shot, which he also emotionally dedicated to Diogo Jota.

During the second half, both teams engaged in an intense, back-and-forth duel. The difference came from a set piece in the 72nd minute, when Edson Álvarez rose inside the box to connect with a header that ended up in the back of the net.

The goal was reviewed by VAR for a possible offside position, but it was validated and meant the championship goal.

With this result, Mexico once again defeated its bitter rival in a Gold Cup final.

Of the eight finals they've played against each other, the Tricolor has won seven, making it clear who dominates the region's strongest rivalry.

NRG Stadium was packed with fans, mostly Mexican, who euphorically celebrated the title.

The Mexican national team thus adds its second consecutive championship in this tournament, after also winning in 2023, and is looking confident as it faces the process towards the 2026 World Cup , which it will host jointly with the United States and Canada.

The United States , for its part, will have to rethink its strategy after this new setback at home, although it remains one of the strongest projects in the region.

The defeat was painful, but it provided lessons for upcoming international commitments.
