Saraperos falls in the first round against Algodoneros and their playoff spot becomes more difficult.

The Saraperos de Saltillo saw their chances of reaching the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) playoffs diminish after losing the first game of their final regular-season series against the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna by a score of 3-0 at the Estadio de la Revolución.
The Saltillo team, forced to sweep the series to keep alive its hopes of qualifying for sixth place in the Northern Zone, failed to respond offensively and was held back by the home team's pitching throughout the nine innings.
The Algodoneros opened the scoring in the second inning when Adrián Tovalín hit his tenth home run of the season , a solo shot to left field that made it 1-0 .

It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Laguna team extended its lead. With one out on the count, Nicholas Torres hit a single to left field that allowed Albert Lara and Julian Escobedo to score, who came from third and second base, respectively, to make it 3-0 .
Saltillo failed to generate runs throughout the game and left several runners in scoring position, in a match where the urgency for results combined with a muted offense.
With this result, Saraperos puts its record at 43 wins and 47 losses , while Charros de Jalisco , the team that currently occupies the last place in the classification in the Northern Zone, remains ahead with 45 wins .
The situation is now more critical for the team led by Sergio Omar Gastélum , as they need to win the two remaining games of the series and hope that the Charros lose both of their remaining commitments , in order to achieve a tie for sixth place and aspire to advance to the postseason by tiebreaker criteria.
This Tuesday, August 5th, will be a day of rest for both teams, who will resume the series on Wednesday, August 6th, with the second game, at the same Torreón stadium. The third and final game will be key to determining whether Saltillo achieves a miraculous combination or concludes its participation in the 2025 season.
