Santos pulls off a surprise victory over Chivas women.

The Chivas women's team was surprised on their visit to Torreón. Clearly weakened by the absence of Carolina Jaramillo and Alicia Cervantes, Antonio Contreras' team suffered an unexpected defeat against Santos Laguna , which didn't require much effort to claim a 2-1 victory at TSM Corona Stadium .
The Flock didn't know how to fill the gaps left by their two key players . Carolina couldn't play in this match after being sent off against Bravas, and "Licha" was absent due to an injury. As a result, the red-and-white team lost its bearings by not having the players who always make a difference on the field.
Forced to modify his starting eleven, Contreras sent out youngster Amalia López, who had a difficult day with the few crosses that came her way. As is rarely the case, Chivas had few scoring opportunities, and creating dangerous plays was a challenge without their creative talent on the field .
For their part, the Laguna team weren't a dominant team either , but they did know how to take advantage of their opponent's mistakes to prevail. Santos opened the scoring after a loss of the ball in midfield and a poor clearance by Celeste Espino, leaving the goal at the mercy of Lía Romero, who sent the ball into the back of the net in the 37th minute.
Guadalajara had a chance to equalize after a home defender handled the ball in the six-yard box. Kinberly Guzmán scored from the penalty spot in the 56th minute.
However, the red and whites would return the favor. Gabriela Valenzuela committed an own foul, awarding the home side a penalty. African Sandra Nabweteme didn't hesitate and sealed the win for Santos in the 93rd minute.
After this embarrassing result, Chivas will have to recover quickly, as they will host Cruz Azul at Akron Stadium on Friday, August 8th at 5:00 PM for Matchday 5.
